More than 100 people huddled under umbrellas and tents for the June 27th groundbreaking event celebrating The Springs development, which includes the Tri-Cities Children’s Centre. Provincial, municipal, and project leaders spoke about the development that will bring affordable housing, a new church and a child development hub to the community. The Tri-Cities Children’s Centre, a joint initiative of Kinsight and SHARE Family & Community Services, will feature more than 22,000 square feet of space to support children and youth with developmental delays and disabilities and their families.
“Kinsight and SHARE have worked diligently together for the last 15 years to coordinate services and to develop the concept of a Centre for families and their children who are at risk for, or who have a developmental delay or disability,” explains Christine Scott, Kinsight CEO.
“Developmental delays can affect any child. And no matter what the circumstance of any given child or family, the one thing that is universal is that those who love that child want them to get all the supports they need for the very best start in life,” notes Claire MacLean, SHARE CEO. “That is why SHARE and Kinsight are here. And that is what the Children’s Centre will bring to this community.”
Slated to open in 2021, the Children’s Centre will serve more than 2,500 children and families each year in Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Belcarra and Anmore.
The groundbreaking ceremony opened with a blessing from Elder Charlene Aleck of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation; and remarks from Rick Glumac, MLA for Port Moody; Hunter Madsen, Port Moody City Councillor; and Springs partners: Minister Julie Lebrun, Inlet United Church, Helen Liu, Catalyst Community Developments Society, Christine Scott, CEO of Kinsight; and, Claire MacLean, CEO of SHARE.
